Initial Situation: Overcoming Crowded Teeth

Our patient presented with crowded teeth at the first consultation. Initially, we recommended orthodontics. A clear aligner system could have aligned the teeth in just 4–5 months. However, she declined this option and chose an immediate aesthetic solution instead.

We fulfilled her request with a professional compromise. Since the teeth did not sit in a perfect arch, we had to remove slightly more tooth material from the protruding sections. This allowed us to guarantee a uniform and harmonious final result.

During Digital Smile Design (DSD), we determined the ideal size and shape of the future teeth using photos and digital scans. We also factored in her unique facial characteristics. We finalized the plan together with the patient. This way, she saw and evaluated the expected result before we even touched a tooth.

Precision Planning and Preparation: 3D Models and Silicone Guides

Technology plays a crucial role in our work. Our dental technician created a 3D printed model (formerly called a wax-up), which served two main goals:

• Copy Guide: This silicone index allowed us to control the preparation precisely. We only removed the bare minimum (an average of 0.3–0.4 mm from the surface and 1.7 mm from the tooth edge).
• Mock-up: We used this model to create temporary veneers. These allowed the patient to “test drive” her new smile.

Temporary Smile – The Trial Run

We took a digital scan of the prepared teeth and immediately placed the acrylic temporary veneers. In this vital phase, the patient can test the new shapes “in real life.” If she requests any changes, we can easily implement them here. Since our patient loved the trial version, we started manufacturing the final ceramics.

Final Bonding: 10X Magnification and Rubber Dam Isolation

Two weeks later, we removed the temporary veneers and checked the final ceramics with try-in pastes. We followed a strict bonding protocol:

• Rubber Dam Isolation: We used a special latex sheet to isolate the teeth from saliva and moisture. Strong, permanent bonding requires a perfectly dry surface.
• 10X Magnification: We worked under precision loupes to ensure a microscopically accurate fit.

The Result: Radiant BL1 Shade and Long-term Durability

For the final result, we chose premium, hand-layered lithium disilicate Emax veneer restorations. Our patient picked the brightest BL1 shade. This shade provides a radiant yet natural glow.

We performed the entire treatment under local anesthesia, ensuring a pain-free experience. Thanks to the perfect marginal fit, the patient reported no post-operative sensitivity.

Lithium disilicate is one of the strongest dental ceramics. If you maintain good oral hygiene and attend regular check-ups, it will stay perfect for 10–15 years or even longer.

How white is the BL1 shade?
